Ukraine has set fire to at least one oil refinery and warehouses belonging to Russia’s largest online retailer Wildberries in a new massive wave of drone strikes on Russian territory, killing one person and wounding two others in the latest escalation of Kyiv’s deep-strike campaign against Russian logistics and energy infrastructure.
Massive blaze engulfs Voronezh warehouses
Warehouse space covering tens of thousands of square metres was ablaze in the Voronezh region, Governor Aleksandr Gusev said on Tuesday morning. He said a 49-year-old man had been fatally injured in the attack and that two others had been wounded .
According to the governor, the attack took place overnight and Russian air defences shot down 15 drones. He did not say how many drones reached their target .
Gusev declared an alert around 1 a.m. local time, and by morning acknowledged that fires had broken out at two warehouses belonging to a major company in the Novousmansky District following the « fall » of a drone. Firefighters contained the blaze to an area of 16,000 square metres at one site, while they were still battling flames across 20,000 square metres at the other. Falling debris also damaged three trucks and one passenger car, he said .
Wildberries logistics hub evacuated
Wildberries said on Tuesday morning that the facilities at the logistics centre had been evacuated. « The fire that broke out as a result of an attack on the company’s logistics facilities in the Voronezh region has been extinguished. Fire crews continue to work at the site, » the company said .
The targeted facility is a major Wildberries distribution hub in the village of Novaya Usman in Voronezh Oblast’s Novousmansky District. The warehouse complex covers 152,900 square metres (38 acres) and can store more than 90 million products. It was fully opened at the end of 2025 and is one of Russia’s largest private logistics facilities, capable of processing up to 1.8 million items per day once fully automated .
Ukrainian drones struck the logistics hub overnight into Aug. 11, and the complex burned through the night. Residents said it had been destroyed completely .
Oil refinery ablaze in Orenburg region
An oil refinery also caught fire after a drone attack in Orsk, in the Orenburg region on the border with Kazakhstan, according to social media reports .
Separately, a fire broke out at an oil refinery over 6,000 kilometres (4,000 miles) from Ukraine in Russia’s Far East, monitoring channels reported — underscoring the extraordinary reach of Kyiv’s drone campaign .
Ukrainian drone manufacturer claims responsibility
The strike was confirmed by Fire Point, the Ukrainian manufacturer of the long-range FP-1 drone. The company said its aircraft carried out the attack on the Wildberries hub near Voronezh .
A campaign against « Russia’s Amazon »
The overnight raid is the latest in a sustained Ukrainian campaign targeting Wildberries — widely known as « Russia’s Amazon » — which has become a focal point of Kyiv’s effort to disrupt Russian supply chains and bring the war home to ordinary Russians.
A wave of near-nightly Ukrainian drone attacks has struck at least 20 Wildberries logistics sites across Russia, destroying more than a fifth of the e-commerce giant’s total warehouse capacity, according to Reuters. In total, the online marketplace lost approximately 1.18 million square metres of critical warehouse space to the attacks .
Kyiv’s campaign against Wildberries first hit the company’s sites in Elektrostal, just east of Moscow, and in the Tambov region on July 18. Strikes followed on facilities across western and southern Russia, as well as Russian-held Crimea. Ukrainian drones also struck the company’s Shushary logistics complex in St. Petersburg, the Utkina Zavod facility in Leningrad region, and its Simferopol logistics hub in Russian-occupied Crimea .
Earlier in the campaign, at least five people were killed across Russia in Ukrainian drone strikes that hit industrial sites and a Wildberries warehouse in the Samara region, some 800 kilometres from the Russian-Ukrainian border. At least nine people have been killed and scores wounded in the broader campaign against Wildberries facilities .
A widening pattern of strikes
The attacks on Wildberries form part of a wider Ukrainian drone offensive targeting Russian energy infrastructure, logistics hubs and military assets deep behind the front line. Ukrainian drones have repeatedly struck oil refineries across Russia — including the Syzran Oil Refinery in Samara Oblast, located around 800 kilometres behind the front line — as well as pumping stations and military airbases .
The Voronezh region, which lies several hundred kilometres from the Ukrainian border, has been a frequent target. The city came under a massive drone attack on July 23, with one of the primary targets being the same Wildberries logistics and distribution centre struck overnight .
Russian officials have not commented on the broader strategic impact of the strikes, but the cumulative damage to Wildberries’ logistics network has prompted an exodus of sellers whose inventories were destroyed, according to reporting on the campaign .
