A large international conference discussing global information challenges

NEW YORK, 5 October 2026 — Governments, United Nations bodies, civil society, media organizations, researchers and technology companies have called for stronger cooperation to confront the rapidly changing global information crisis.

The appeal emerged from the high-level Information Integrity Solutions Dialogue held at UN Headquarters during the high-level week of the 81st General Assembly session.

Participants examined the spread of misinformation, deliberately deceptive content and hate speech, as well as the pressure these trends place on public trust, democratic participation, humanitarian work and responses to global emergencies.

The dialogue emphasized moving from broad principles to practical measures, including wider access to research, training resources, policy tools and evidence about interventions that protect information integrity.

A shared mechanism is expected to connect people working across sectors and regions, allowing them to exchange research and track policy developments instead of addressing the problem through isolated initiatives.

Participants also highlighted risks facing children in the age of artificial intelligence and called for stronger safeguards as digital platforms and automated systems increasingly shape how young people receive information.

The dialogue’s conclusions were checked against United Nations reporting and the African Union’s account of the event. Both sources confirm the multi-stakeholder approach and the demand for measurable action ahead of COP31 and the Internet Governance Forum.
