Iran denies Trump’s claim that U.S.-Iran negotiations to begin today after U.S. strikes called off
TEHRAN — Iran on Monday dismissed claims of upcoming direct negotiations with Washington, contradicting statement made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding an impending breakthrough.
Speaking on Sunday, President Trump stated that a « deal is imminent, having to do with the Hormuz Strait and also, ultimately, the denuclearization of Iran. » The President’s comments followed his decision to call off military strikes against Iranian targets—strikes he claimed would have marked the « biggest attacks since World War II. »
However, Iranian officials firmly denied any direct engagement with the United States. According to an Iranian official speaking Monday, Tehran’s diplomatic efforts remain strictly focused on regional mediation.
Iran is currently conducting « constructive discussions » exclusively with Oman, focusing on establishing a new, temporary maritime route through the strategic Strait of Hormuz following a week of preliminary talks.
