French President Emmanuel Macron has ordered the government to prepare a stronger response to what he described as intensifying Russian hybrid attacks against France and Europe.
Macron raised the issue after meeting French political party leaders and said the operations were intended to weaken European support for Ukraine.
The threats cited by the French government include cyberattacks, hostile influence activity and drone incidents affecting critical infrastructure.
Macron referred to a recent drone attack at Germany’s Leipzig airport as evidence that the methods being used against European states are evolving.
The French response is expected to focus on protecting essential infrastructure, improving detection and coordinating security measures with European and NATO partners.
The warning comes as France also faces higher fuel prices linked to conflict in the Middle East and pressure to reduce a projected budget deficit.
Paris is expected to use upcoming international meetings, including discussions among G7 partners, to pursue closer cooperation on security and energy resilience.
