The United States has removed Venezuela from its annual list of major drug-producing or transit countries after more than two decades of inclusion.
The decision follows political upheaval in Caracas and closer cooperation between Washington and the interim administration led by Delcy Rodríguez.
U.S. President Donald Trump also said Colombia could be removed from the list if its government demonstrates sufficient progress against drug production and trafficking.
Both Venezuela and Colombia remain important routes or production centers in the regional narcotics trade, meaning the designation change is primarily a policy and diplomatic signal.
For Caracas, the move could support a gradual normalization of relations and create space for wider security and economic discussions.
For Bogotá, the warning increases pressure to show measurable results while protecting cooperation with Washington on intelligence, interdiction and rural development.
Analysts will be watching whether the revised designations translate into changes in sanctions, assistance or law-enforcement coordination across the region.
