Iran is awaiting an official United States response to a proposal that Tehran says could reopen the Strait of Hormuz and halt regional hostilities within seven days.
The initiative was presented during the UN General Assembly and transmitted to Washington through Qatari mediators, according to Iranian officials.
The plan would require the United States to lift its blockade on Iranian ports, release frozen Iranian funds and waive oil sanctions in exchange for restored navigation and a broader pause in fighting.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said preparations were complete if Washington demonstrated genuine willingness to reach an agreement and begin wider negotiations.
Reports that President Donald Trump had rejected the proposal created fresh uncertainty, although a US official had earlier described indirect discussions as positive and constructive.
Tehran maintains that it will not surrender its claimed nuclear rights, while President Masoud Pezeshkian says Iran is prepared for negotiations but will not accept coercion.
The outcome carries global consequences because prolonged disruption in the Strait of Hormuz threatens energy supplies, commercial shipping and economic stability far beyond the Middle East.
